A former Missouri state trooper spent years searching women’s phones for nude images during traffic stops, violating their right to remain free from unreasonable search and seizure.
David McKnight, 40, unlawfully searched the phones of nine women from September 2023 to July 2024, often using his own phone to take photos of the images he found.
He’d claim to need their phones to confirm their identities or insurance information, but in reality, he was snooping for explicit content.
When two victims grew suspicious, they reported McKnight to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, which launched an investigation that revealed the scope of his abuse.
McKnight pleaded guilty to nine counts of deprivation of rights under color of law and was sentenced to 21 months in prison.
