Felon Sentenced to 17 Years for Meth and Gun Charges
Huntsville, AL – Norman David Ray Fischer, a 41-year-old convicted felon from Owens Cross Roads, has been sentenced to 211 months in prison for gun and drug charges.
A federal judge handed down the sentence on unspecified charges, including possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Fischer pleaded guilty to the charges in March. U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Special Agent in Charge Mickey French announced the sentencing.
Escalona stated, “As this sentence demonstrates, drug-dealing felons with guns face stiff penalties under federal law.” He emphasized the importance of working with law enforcement partners to prosecute these crimes.
French added, “ATF’s Crime Gun Intelligence partnerships with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office focuses on the devastating impact of firearms violence and works with the entire community to reduce the potential for violent crime.”
The ATF investigated the case with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Unit and SWAT Team. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert J. Becher prosecuted the case.
Fischer’s lengthy sentence serves as a warning to others who engage in similar activities. As law enforcement agencies continue to work together to combat crime, the public can expect to see more convictions and sentences like this in the future.
