Reginald Duante Davis, 35, and Kelvin Wright, convicted felons from Gainesville, Florida, were caught with a loaded firearm on April 12, 2024, when the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office stopped their vehicle for multiple traffic violations. The stop led to a probable cause search, which uncovered the gun in the center console. Both Davis and Wright are prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition due to their prior felony convictions.
The DNA of both defendants was found on the firearm, linking them to the crime. This is Davis’s second conviction for possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon. Wright had previously pleaded guilty to the same charge.
The case was jointly investigated by the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Christie S. Utt is prosecuting the case, which is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at reducing crime.
Davis and Wright each face up to 15 years in prison for their crimes. Sentencing is scheduled for October 20, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the United States Courthouse in Gainesville before Chief United States District Judge Allen C. Winsor.
