Man Behind Bars After Multiple Deportations
NEW ORLEANS – Marlon Torres-Herrera, a 50-year-old El Salvadorian national, has been sentenced to eight months in prison for felony illegal re-entry after previously being deported from the United States. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Sarah Vance on March 27, 2026 (date not specified).
Torres-Herrera was originally arrested on November 14, 2019 by federal immigration authorities and had served over eight months in jail prior to being sentenced. He will be deported once again following his release from prison. According to the indictment, Torres-Herrera reentered the United States after being previously deported on May 16, 2011.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Carter K. D. Guice, Jr. is in charge of the prosecution. U.S. Attorney Peter Strasser praised the work of the United States Department of Homeland Security in investigating this matter.
Torres-Herrera faced a maximum term of imprisonment of two years, a maximum fine of $250,000, a maximum term of supervised release of one year, and a mandatory $100 special assessment. He pled guilty on June 24, 2020.
