Kevin Sanders, a 48-year-old Lexington man, was convicted of distributing fentanyl and methamphetamine in Lexington, Kentucky, after a 3-day trial. The investigation, which began in February 2025, revealed that Sanders was selling large quantities of fentanyl and methamphetamine to law enforcement officers. In April 2025, a search warrant was executed at his residence, where officers seized over 3,700 grams of methamphetamine, 608 grams of fentanyl, and 500 grams of cocaine, as well as five firearms.

Sanders, who has a prior conviction for Attempt First Degree Murder from Cook County, Illinois, was found guilty of four counts of distributing fentanyl, three counts of distributing methamphetamine, and three counts of possessing with intent to distribute large quantities of narcotics. He was also convicted of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The investigation was conducted by the ATF, Kentucky State Police, and Richmond Police Department. The U.S. Attorney’s Office was represented in the case by Assistant U.S. Attorney Cynthia Rieker. Sanders will appear for sentencing on September 10, 2025.

The conviction is a significant blow to the drug trade in Lexington, where fentanyl and methamphetamine have been wreaking havoc on communities. Law enforcement officials hailed the conviction as a major victory in the war on drugs.
