⏱ 2 min read

Ricky Helton, a 48-year-old Georgetown, Kentucky man, was sentenced to 180 months in prison for possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine. On October 24, 2024, Helton met an individual in Lexington to purchase methamphetamine, but law enforcement approached his vehicle and found one pound of the drug. Prior to this, law enforcement had conducted four controlled purchases of methamphetamine from June through August 2024. Helton’s history of methamphetamine-related crimes dates back to 2005, when he was convicted of attempted manufacturing methamphetamine in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky.

Helton’s sentencing is the result of a thorough investigation conducted by the DEA and the Kentucky State Police. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney James T. Chapman on behalf of the United States. First Assistant United States Attorney Jason Parman, DEA Special Agent in Charge Jim Scott, and Kentucky State Police Commissioner Phillip J. Burnett, Jr. announced the sentence.

Under federal law, Helton must serve 85 percent of his prison sentence. Upon his release from prison, he will be under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office for 10 years. The sentence serves as a reminder of the severe consequences of methamphetamine trafficking in Kentucky.
