PROVIDENCE, RI – A brazen display of disregard for the law landed a Providence man in hot water as he pleaded guilty to fentanyl trafficking while awaiting trial for allegedly trafficking 10 kilos of cocaine in Nebraska.
Stanli S. Arias De La Rosa, 30, of Providence, will be sentenced on September 24, 2024, after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute fentanyl in federal court. The defendant was caught hiding in a closet during a court-authorized search of a Providence apartment on March 10, 2023, where authorities seized 454.9 grams of fentanyl, 43 grams of cocaine, 14.5 grams of crack cocaine, and assorted items used in the packaging and distribution of drugs.
At the time of his arrest, De La Rosa was the subject of an outstanding arrest warrant issued in York, Nebraska, related to his alleged failure to appear for court hearings in connection with a September 30, 2022, arrest for possession of cocaine. In that matter, it is alleged that Arias De La Rosa was driving a vehicle that was pulled over for a traffic stop and found to contain 10 kilograms of cocaine stored in the trunk.
The fentanyl trafficking case in Rhode Island marks the latest in a string of alleged crimes committed by De La Rosa, who has shown a blatant disregard for the law and a willingness to engage in high-stakes trafficking operations while awaiting trial for other charges.
Assistant United States Attorney Christine D. Lowell is prosecuting the case, which is being handled by the DEA Rhode Island Drug Task Force. The U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors will be considered by a federal district judge in determining De La Rosa’s sentence.
De La Rosa’s plea deal is a significant blow to his alleged trafficking operation, which had been operating in the shadows of Providence’s streets. The guilty plea serves as a stark reminder that law enforcement is working tirelessly to take down those who engage in such heinous crimes and bring them to justice.
In a statement, U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Cunha praised the efforts of the DEA Rhode Island Drug Task Force, stating, ‘This case is a prime example of the tireless efforts of law enforcement to disrupt and dismantle the networks of individuals who engage in the trafficking of deadly substances.’
