GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: In a grim turn of justice, Jessica Lee Erickson, the 44-year-old Daytona Beach resident accused of selling fentanyl that led to a death in Dubuque, Iowa, has been sentenced to serve fourteen years in federal prison. Erickson pleaded guilty on January 2, 2025, to distributing a controlled substance resulting in death.
The deadly distribution began around May 2024 when Erickson started supplying the substance known as fentanyl. On June 15, 2024, she handed over the lethal mix to her victim at a Dubuque home. The victim’s life was cut short that day after using the substance provided by Erickson.
Erickson faced the federal bench in Cedar Rapids, where United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams imposed the sentence of 168 months’ imprisonment. Following her release from prison, she will be subjected to a five-year term of supervised release. The severity of her crime means there is no parole available in the federal system.
Assistant United States Attorney Nicole L. Nagin prosecuted the case, while the Dubuque Drug Task Force was responsible for the investigation. Erickson is currently being held by the United States Marshal’s Service until she can be transferred to a federal correctional facility.
