Luis Garcia, a 29-year-old from Shelbyville, Kentucky, was involved in a large-scale firearms conspiracy from April 8, 2021, to January 12, 2024. Garcia conspired with others to obtain firearms by making false statements, dealt in firearms without a license, and attempted to smuggle them from the United States to Honduras. He purchased 83 firearms from various dealers in Hardin, Jefferson, and Nelson Counties, making false statements to licensed dealers. On November 14, 2023, a package containing 7 firearms purchased by Garcia was intercepted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Garcia’s scheme involved engaging in the business of dealing in firearms without a license and obtaining money and profit by illegally dealing in and exporting firearms. His actions led to a significant risk of these firearms being used for illicit purposes in Honduras.
The investigation involved multiple agencies, including the ATF, DEA, HSI, and Louisville Metro Police Department. On August 6, 2026, Garcia was sentenced to 5 years in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release, for his role in the conspiracy.
