Joseph Elegele, 41, of Orlando, FL, is going down for 3 years, 10 months for laundering $800,000 in a brazen online scam scheme. The scheme, which lasted from August 2017 to June 2023, saw Elegele and his cohorts swindle businesses across the US and in the Bahamas, netting over $800,000.
Elegele’s role in the operation was to set up bank accounts in the Middle District of Florida, where the scammers would transfer their ill-gotten gains. He’d then quickly withdraw or cash out the funds, passing some of the loot on to his co-conspirators.
According to court documents, Elegele took a cut of the action, pocketing portions of the funds for himself. The feds nailed him after an FBI investigation, which led to a guilty plea in December 2025.
