Andrew Roger Torres, Child Sex Abuse Image Possession, Florida 2024

Fort Myers, Florida – Today, U.S. District Judge Sheri Polster Chappell handed down a five-year federal prison term to Andrew Roger Torres, 47, of Fort Myers, for possessing and accessing with intent to view images depicting the sexual abuse of children.

Torres’s guilty plea on August 20, 2024, followed an investigation that revealed his possession of child sex abuse material. The offense spanned from February 3 through August 24, 2023, as Torres searched for and accessed such content using social media applications and the internet.

Triggered by cybertips in December 2022 and February 2023, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) reported videos depicting child sexual abuse uploaded from Torres’s cellphone. A subsequent search warrant at his residence yielded two cellphones containing further evidence of his offending activity.

Upon speaking with law enforcement, Torres confessed to downloading files online, viewing them on his cellphone, and then deleting them. However, forensic examination of his devices uncovered the material. Investigated by the FBI and Fort Myers Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, this case is a part of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative combating child sexual exploitation.

Assistant United States Attorney Yolande G. Viacava prosecuted the case. For more information on Project Safe Childhood, visit www.justice.gov/psc.
