Fort Worth Woman Sentenced for Forced Labor
A Fort Worth, Texas, woman, Olga Sandra Murra, 64, has been sentenced to 72 months in federal prison for her role in forcing two women to work for her without pay.
Murra was convicted of all four counts of an indictment charging federal felony offenses related to her harboring two women she illegally brought into the U.S. from Mexico and forcing them to work for her with the threat of serious harm and physical restraint.
The investigation, led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations (ICE HSI), found that Murra had brought two Mexican citizens, V.R. and I.G., into the U.S. illegally and forced them to work for her house-cleaning business without pay.
Murra, who represented herself as the voice of God, required the women to listen to Bible recordings and obey her commands, threatening them with physical harm and deportation if they disobeyed.
The women were subjected to physical and emotional abuse, including being restricted from speaking to others, having their food limited to bread and water, and being forced to sleep on the floor or in the garage.
Murra was also ordered to pay a total of $795,000 in restitution to her two victims. The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle Allen-McCoy and Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Wirmani.
