Austin Felon Charged with Firearm Possession

An Austin felon made his initial appearance in federal court yesterday after he was arrested on criminal charges related to his alleged possession of a firearm. Frank Horton Lee Jr., 38, is facing up to 15 years in prison if convicted of one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.

According to court documents, Lee was allegedly found to possess a .45 ACP caliber semiautomatic pistol following a traffic stop by officers of the Austin Police Department on May 24. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Austin Police Department are investigating the case.

U.S. Attorney Justin Simmons for the Western District of Texas made the announcement, stating that Lee, a convicted felon, is now facing federal charges for his alleged actions.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Alan Buie is prosecuting the case, and a federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

A criminal complaint is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

Lee’s case is a stark reminder of the dangers of firearm possession by convicted felons and the consequences they face if caught.

The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
