Fresno Man Sentenced for Methamphetamine and Gun Charges
FRESNO, Calif. — In a disturbing case of organized crime, Hector Kioni Gongora, 44, of Fresno, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and unlawfully possessing a firearm and ammunition after being convicted of a felony crime.
According to court documents, on January 11, 2021, Gongora was arrested on a felony warrant and found in possession of a firearm and methamphetamine. A search of his residence recovered over 300 additional rounds of ammunition.
Gongora was charged with one count of possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition and pleaded guilty on June 29, 2021.
The case was the product of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Fresno Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Antonio J. Pataca prosecuted the case.
As part of the joint federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, Gongora’s case is being prosecuted to combat the ongoing violent crime problem. This program has proven to be effective at reducing violent crime by focusing enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partnering with locally based prevention and reentry programs.
The PSN program is a core strategy of reducing violent crime in the community. It brings together a broad spectrum of stakeholders to identify the most pressing violent crime problems and develop comprehensive solutions to address them.
The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Dale A. Drozd. Gongora’s conviction serves as a reminder of the importance of this program and the need to continue working together to combat the scourge of organized crime in our community.
