Fuelman Credit Card Scam Lands Shreveport Man 32 Months in Prison

A Shreveport man was sentenced to 32 months in prison and 3 years of supervised release for his role in a fuelman credit card scam. Tory Deshawn Jackson, 42, of Shreveport, Louisiana, was found guilty of conspiracy to commit credit card fraud and aggravated identity theft.

The scam, which took place from September 2017 to October 2019, involved Jackson and his co-conspirators using stolen Fuelman credit cards to purchase gasoline and other items at Shreveport area gas stations. The stolen cards were obtained by Jackson, who used his position as an employee of the Solid Waste Department in the City of Shreveport Public Works to steal the credit cards.

According to court documents, Jackson and his co-conspirators would meet at a local gas station, where they would use one of the stolen Fuelman credit cards, along with the Fuelman personal identification number of a Solid Waste Department supervisor, to pump fuel into large containers. The containers, which could hold up to 500 gallons of fuel, would then be taken to a third party to sell, and the profit would be split among the co-conspirators.

The total amount of transactions made using the stolen credit cards was $409,769.56. Jackson was arrested on October 16, 2019, and pleaded guilty to the charges on April 7, 2021.

Jackson’s co-defendant, Jawaski Johnson, is scheduled to be sentenced on December 7, 2021. The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Shreveport Police Department, and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Seth D. Reeg.

Acting United States Attorney Alexander C. Van Hook announced the sentencing, which was handed down by United States District Judge Elizabeth E. Foote. Jackson was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $409,769.56.
