In a case that will leave you speechless, a 40-year-old Ingham County man has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for raping and filming a minor under his care. John Michael Garron, of Stockbridge, Michigan, was found guilty of producing child pornography and distributing it online, according to the DOJ USAO.
Garron’s heinous crimes were uncovered in 2023, when he bragged about his abuse of the minor child and distributed images of child pornography to other users online. What he didn’t know was that one of the users he was communicating with was an undercover FBI agent. The FBI began investigating Garron, tracing him to his residence near Lansing. After obtaining a search warrant, agents entered Garron’s residence and collected his devices, which contained over 28,000 images of child pornography.
The images found on Garron’s devices were a testament to the depth of his depravity. They showed him assaulting the minor victim in his care, as well as himself masturbating over her while she slept. The victim, who was under 12 years old at the time, suffered years of exploitation at the hands of Garron.
“Garron sexually assaulted and exploited a vulnerable prepubescent girl under his care,” said U.S. Attorney Dawn N. Ison. “Our office remains committed to using whatever resources necessary to bring those who prey on our children to justice.”
This case was investigated by the FBI and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Christopher Rawsthorne and Diane Princ. The sentencing reflects the severity of Garron’s crimes, and serves as a warning to those who would seek to exploit children.
As Cheyvorea Gibson, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI in Michigan, said, “This sentencing reflects our unwavering commitment to protect the most vulnerable in our community. The years of exploitation endured by this young girl are utterly reprehensible.”
