Child Predator Sentenced to 25 Years in Prison
Gavin Collins, a 30-year-old man from Newell, West Virginia, was sentenced to 25 years in prison for producing child pornography.
Collins was found guilty of one count of “Production of Child Pornography by Person Having Custody or Control” in May 2021. He admitted to producing child pornography with a minor in his custody from September 2018 to July 2020 in Hancock County.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Danae DeMasi-Lemon prosecuted on behalf of the government.
U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey presided over the case. Collins will serve 300 months of incarceration for his crime.
The case highlights the importance of efforts to combat child sex crimes, and the need for continued vigilance in protecting the most vulnerable members of society.
