CINCINNATI, Ohio — In a disturbing case of repeatedly violating US immigration laws, Gelacio Macias-Olivares, 42, a Mexican national, has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for illegally re-entering the United States.
The defendant was found by law enforcement in Lebanon, Ohio, in April. Macias-Olivares has three prior felony convictions for illegal re-entry of a removed alien. His prior convictions occurred in the Western District of Texas, Southern District of Texas, and the District of Arizona. The defendant had most recently been deported from Texas in April 2020.
According to court documents, Macias-Olivares’ repeated violations of US immigration laws demonstrate a blatant disregard for the law and a willingness to risk serious consequences. His actions are a stark reminder of the severe penalties associated with re-entering the US illegally.
The sentence was imposed on September 25 by Senior U.S. District Court Judge Susan J. Dlott. Assistant United States Attorney Ebunoluwa Taiwo represented the United States in this case.
Macias-Olivares’ case serves as a warning to those who would attempt to circumvent US immigration laws. The consequences of re-entering the US illegally can be severe, and those who engage in such behavior are putting themselves at risk of serious harm.
The prosecution of cases like Macias-Olivares’ is a critical component of maintaining the integrity of US immigration laws. By holding individuals accountable for their actions, we can work towards a safer and more secure community for all.
