Colchester Man Sentenced for Heinous Child Exploitation Crimes
Burlington, Vermont – In a shocking turn of events, George Casey, 33, of Colchester, Vermont, was sentenced to serve 262 months in prison for his role in producing and possessing child pornography. The case, which has left the community reeling, serves as a stark reminder of the need for continued vigilance in protecting our children.
According to court records, law enforcement received a report in the summer of 2020 that Casey was engaging in the sexual assault of minor children living in the same neighborhood as him. An investigation was launched, culminating in the execution of a search warrant at Casey’s residence in March 2021. Multiple computers and digital media were seized and searched, leading to the discovery of five videos depicting Casey’s heinous crimes against two young girls, then ages 5 and 7.
Furthermore, law enforcement discovered a staggering collection of approximately 1,419 images depicting child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on Casey’s digital media. The evidence against Casey was irrefutable, leading to his immediate arrest.
United States Attorney Nikolas P. Kerest commended the efforts of Homeland Security Investigations, the Chittenden Unit for Special Investigations, and the Vermont Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force in the investigation of Casey’s crimes.
Chief U.S. District Judge Geoffrey W. Crawford handed down the sentence, ordering Casey to serve a 15-year term of supervised release following his prison term. This case serves as a stark reminder of the severity of child exploitation crimes and the importance of continued efforts to combat this scourge.
In a statement, Barbara A. Masterson, Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Vermont, emphasized the gravity of Casey’s crimes, stating, ‘The production and possession of child pornography is a heinous crime that causes irreparable harm to its victims.’
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
