Charlotte Man Sentenced to 27 Years in Prison for Leading Poly-Drug Trafficking Organization
A Charlotte, North Carolina, man was sentenced to 27 years in prison for leading a poly-drug trafficking organization that distributed methamphetamine, fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine in Mecklenburg County.
George Irving Rivens, 38, of Charlotte, was sentenced to 27 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release for his role as the leader of the organization. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, and fentanyl.
Rivens was one of four members of the organization to be sentenced in federal court. The others were Paul Alexander Kaber, 29, of Charlotte, who was sentenced to 172 months in prison; Christopher Ahmad Townsend, 32, of Charlotte, who was sentenced to 130 months in prison; and Joseph Earl Connor, 34, of Charlotte, who was sentenced to 70 months in prison.
The investigation, led by the FBI, ATF, and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, identified nine members of the organization who were prosecuted federally in connection with the case. The investigation found that from January 1, 2021, to June 3, 2022, Rivens supplied the members of the organization with methamphetamine, fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine for local distribution in Charlotte.
Law enforcement identified a residence in Charlotte as a wholesale stash house used by the organization to store and traffic drugs. On June 3, 2022, investigators executed a search warrant at the stash house, seizing 16.5 kilograms of methamphetamine, more than 5.7 kilograms of fentanyl, over 2.6 kilograms of cocaine, over a kilogram of heroin, 37 kilograms of marijuana, and other evidence related to the organization’s activities.
The investigation and prosecution of this case were part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) operation. OCDETF is a federal program that brings together law enforcement agencies to disrupt and dismantle organized crime groups.
