Georgia Man Guilty of Receiving Child Porn
A 45-year-old Georgia man has pleaded guilty to receiving videos and images depicting child pornography in a federal court in Jacksonville, Florida.
John Charles Stevenson, of Rincon, Georgia, was arrested on January 31, 2013, after a federal search warrant was executed at his residence in Jacksonville. Authorities seized two laptop computers, which subsequent analysis revealed contained at least 24 videos and 51 images of child pornography.
According to court documents, Stevenson admitted to viewing and downloading child pornography for at least three years, describing his activities as ‘interesting, curious, and novel.’ He stated that he downloads and watches child pornography for his ‘personal use.’
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney D. Rodney Brown.
Stevenson faces a mandatory minimum penalty of not less than 5 years and up to 20 years in federal prison, along with a potential life term of supervised release.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
