Gerald B. Searle, 51, of Liberty Center, Ohio, Charged with Receipt of Child Pornography

A Liberty Center man has been charged with receipt of material involving the sexual exploitation of a child, said Steven M. Dettelbach, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio.

Gerald B. Searle, 51, of Liberty Center, Ohio, was charged with receipt of material involving the sexual exploitation of a child, a felony offense, according to the information.

The conduct took place between 2013 and 2015, according to the information.

If convicted, the defendant’s sentence will be determined by the court after reviewing factors unique to this case, including the defendant’s prior criminal record, if any, the defendant’s role in the offense and the characteristics of the violation. In all cases the sentence will not exceed the statutory maximum and in most cases it will be less than the maximum.

The investigating agency in this case is the Office of the Inspector General, Sandusky, Ohio, with the assistance of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Erie County Sheriff’s Office. The case is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Tracey Tangeman.

An information is only a charge and not evidence of guilt. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Gerald B. Searle, 51, of Liberty Center, Ohio, is currently facing charges of receipt of material involving the sexual exploitation of a child. The case is ongoing.
