A 60-year-old Monroeville man traded vapes for sex acts with a 13-year-old girl, prosecutors say. Joseph Mitchell McDonald, 60, was sentenced to life in prison for sex trafficking the minor in March 2025.
McDonald admitted to providing the child with vapes in exchange for sex acts and her silence about the abuse. The child reported that the abuse began when she was just 12 years old.
United States District Judge Steele handed down the life sentence and a 15-year term of supervised release, which could begin if McDonald is ever released from prison. McDonald will be required to undergo sex offender treatment and mental health treatment while incarcerated.
McDonald was also ordered to pay $100 in special assessments and register as a sex offender with no contact with minors. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Kacey Chappelear prosecuting on behalf of the United States.
