A Northampton Borough couple, Christopher Weikert and Tara Gallucci, 34, have been arrested and charged for their roles in a gun and drug trafficking scheme. The arrests were announced by Attorney General Josh Shapiro, who stated that the couple’s actions eroded the basic right of people to feel safe in their homes and neighborhoods.
On Wednesday, April 28, 2021, agents from the Office of Attorney General’s Bureau of Narcotics Investigations and Pennsylvania State Police Special Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant on the home of Weikert and Gallucci. During the search, investigators discovered 21.5 pounds of crystal methamphetamine with a street value of $968,200, 25.5 grams, or 1,275 doses, of fentanyl with a street value of $4,275, six fully assembled ghost guns, three 80 percent receivers used to make ghost guns, four assault rifles, three handguns, and various ghost gun parts, along with drug and Nazi paraphernalia.
The couple’s arrest is a significant blow to the gun and drug trafficking scheme in the area. Attorney General Shapiro emphasized the importance of getting these poisons out of neighborhoods and off the streets, stating that ghost guns are quickly becoming the weapon of choice for criminals and fueling the gun violence epidemic.
Both Weikert and Gallucci are convicted felons and have been charged with four counts of Possession With Intent To Deliver, three counts of Possession of Controlled Substances, three counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and 14 counts of Possession of Prohibited Firearms. Gallucci is currently in custody, while Weikert is still at large after fleeing the scene during the search.
The case is being prosecuted by the Northampton District Attorney’s office. All charges are accusations, and the defendants are innocent unless and until proven guilty. The investigation and arrest of Weikert and Gallucci demonstrate the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat gun and drug trafficking in the area.
The seizure of ghost guns and other firearms is a significant concern for law enforcement, as these weapons are often used in violent crimes. The use of ghost guns, in particular, has raised concerns due to their ability to be assembled without serial numbers, making them difficult to track. The arrest of Weikert and Gallucci and the seizure of these firearms demonstrate the importance of continued efforts to combat gun violence and drug trafficking in the area.
In a statement, Attorney General Shapiro emphasized the importance of continued action to combat gun and drug trafficking, stating that people have the right to feel safe in their homes and neighborhoods. The arrest of Weikert and Gallucci is a significant step towards achieving this goal, and law enforcement will continue to work to get these poisons out of neighborhoods and off the streets.
