Juan Carlos Gil-Ochoa, Illegal Reentry, Massachusetts 2025

BOSTON – In a stunning turn of events, Salvadoran national Juan Carlos Gil-Ochoa, 36, has pleaded guilty in federal court to the heinous crime of illegal reentry into the United States after being deported. The defendant is scheduled to face sentencing on October 3, 2025.

Gil-Ochoa was indicted by a federal grand jury in June 2025 and apprehended by immigration authorities on May 12, 2025. His illegal return to the United States marks a brazen defiance of the law following his deportation from El Salvador in April 2013.

Despite facing the severe charge of unlawful reentry of a deported alien, which carries a potential sentence of up to two years in prison, one year of supervised release, and a fine reaching $250,000, Gil-Ochoa has shown no remorse. Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and statutes.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Acting Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston, made the chilling announcement. Assistant U.S. Attorney Suzanne Sullivan Jacobus of the Major Crimes Unit is prosecuting this despicable case.

The grim tale of Gil-Ochoa’s illegal journey back to the United States serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by immigration authorities in enforcing our nation’s borders and protecting public safety.
