PIERRE – United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell announced today that U.S. District Judge Eric C. Shulte has sentenced Jamie Leader Charge, a 32-year-old woman from Rosebud, South Dakota, to time served in custody, followed by three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Leader Charge was indicted in December 2024 by a federal grand jury and pleaded guilty on May 12, 2025. The charges stem from an incident that unfolded on November 5, 2024, within the Rosebud Indian Reservation in St. Francis, South Dakota. During the incident, Leader Charge resisted arrest and kicked an officer who had responded to a disturbance call at her residence.
The officer, part of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services (RSTLES), was informed upon arrival that Leader Charge had an active tribal arrest warrant. The violent resistance to arrest led to Leader Charge’s conviction for Assaulting, Resisting, and Impeding a Federal Officer.
This case has been investigated by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Service, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Albertson handling the prosecution. Following her conviction, Leader Charge was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
Leader Charge’s sentence includes approximately four months in federal prison and an additional three years of supervised release. The court also ordered her to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund, reflecting the severity of her actions against a federal officer.
The sentencing hearing took place on August 11, 2025, marking the conclusion of this high-profile case involving a violent confrontation with federal law enforcement on Native American soil.
