Glen Sheffield, 32, Indicted on Eight Counts of Heroin and Firearms Trafficking

Glen Sheffield, a 32-year-old resident of Akron, Ohio, has been charged with eight counts of heroin and firearms trafficking following a grand jury indictment.

According to the indictment, Sheffield was found to possess over a kilogram of methamphetamine and cocaine, as well as nearly 400 grams of heroin, 107 grams of carfentanil, 2 grams of furanyl fentanyl and 107 grams of a substance containing both carfentanil and furanyl fentanyl on May 3.

The indictment also alleges that Sheffield possessed three semi-automatic handguns, including a Sturm Ruger 9 mm, a Springfield Armory D9, and a Sig Sauer, despite prior felony convictions for possession of heroin and cocaine in the Summit County Court of Common Pleas.

These firearms were allegedly used in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, according to the indictment.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Teresa Riley is prosecuting the case, which stems from an investigation by the Akron Police Department Narcotics Unit and the Ohio Adult Parole Authority.

An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. Sheffield is entitled to a fair trial in which the government will be required to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

The sentence for Sheffield, if convicted, will be determined by the court after reviewing factors unique to this case, including his prior criminal record, role in the offense, and characteristics of the violations.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of heroin and firearms trafficking in our communities and the importance of holding individuals accountable for these crimes.
