Greece Man Sentenced for Attempted Possession of Child Pornography

A 77-year-old Greece man pleaded guilty to attempted possession of child pornography in a federal court in New York. Gordon Link was accused of sending sexually suggestive texts to a woman after he received a photo of her 10-year-old daughter by mistake.

The woman had sent the photo to a friend via her cellular phone, but it was sent to Link’s phone instead. He immediately sent several texts back to the woman about the child’s image, leading to a federal investigation.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Craig R. Gestring stated that Link solicited the girl to send him sexually explicit photographs of her body and engaged in sexually explicit chats with her online. Federal agents executed a search warrant at Link’s home and seized the cell phone he used to communicate with the child.

The charge against Link carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, or both. Sentencing is scheduled for November 19, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. before Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford.

Link’s guilty plea is the culmination of an investigation on the part of Officers of the Greece Police Department, under the direction of Chief Patrick Phelan; Officers of the Rochester Police Department, under the direction of Chief Michael Ciminelli; and Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Child Exploitation Task Force.

Gordon Link, 77, of Greece, N.Y., pleaded guilty to attempted possession of child pornography before U.S. District Court Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford.
