A 20-year-old Mission man has been sentenced to 9 years in custody for his role in an egregious child abuse case. Graham Brody Good Shield was convicted of Abusive Sexual Contact with a child under 12 years old, an offense that has shaken the community to its core.
The incident occurred in June 2015, when Good Shield was at a home in Rosebud, where he had been drinking alcohol. An 11-year-old child, the victim, was also present at the residence. In a disturbing display of disregard for the child’s well-being, Good Shield intentionally made sexual contact with the victim, despite knowing that the child was a minor.
The case was investigated by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Carrie G. Sanderson prosecuting the case. Good Shield was indicted on two counts of Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Child by a federal grand jury on August 11, 2015, and subsequently pleaded guilty to Abusive Sexual Contact on March 29, 2016.
On July 5, 2016, U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange sentenced Good Shield to 9 years in custody, followed by 5 years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. The court has also left open the possibility of restitution for 90 days.
The harsh sentence reflects the gravity of Good Shield’s crimes and serves as a warning to others who may be tempted to commit similar atrocities. The community can take some solace in knowing that justice has been served, and that those responsible for such heinous acts will be held accountable.
The U.S. Marshals Service has taken Good Shield into custody, ensuring that he will face the consequences of his actions. This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of protecting our most vulnerable members of society, particularly children, and the need for continued vigilance in preventing such crimes.
As we move forward, it is essential that we continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of our children and work towards creating a society where such atrocities are a rarity.
