Seth Jason, a 65-year-old former Voice of America employee from Edgewater, Maryland, made a series of chilling death threats against Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene between October 2023 and January 2025. Jason, who was employed at VOA headquarters, used a taxpayer-funded phone line to leave voicemails threatening to shoot and murder Greene, her staff, and her family. The threats were made from inside VOA, where Jason worked, and were part of a larger campaign of intimidation against the congresswoman.
Jason’s threats were explicit and disturbing, with one voicemail saying ‘My friends would like to go to a Greene rally because we have our AK-47s and we all want to take them out on her because that’s what we need. One between the th- th- the eyes.’ Another voicemail referenced stockpiling ammunition and following Greene’s advice to prepare for a potential attack.
Jason pleaded guilty to one count of Interstate Communications with a Threat to Kidnap or Injure and one count of anonymous telecommunications harassment on December 18, 2025. He was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison, followed by two years of supervised release.
The sentence sends a clear message that threats against government officials will not be taken lightly. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro stated that ‘No one should have to live their life in fear wondering if threats are about to be fulfilled. Today’s sentence sends a clear message. My office will not take these threats lightly.’
