A convicted felon with a history of violence and deception has been sentenced to the maximum 10 years in prison for possessing a firearm and ammunition in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Gregg Morris McGee, 38, of Cedar Rapids, was sentenced to 120 months’ imprisonment on June 8 after pleading guilty to a single count of possessing a firearm and ammunition as a felon.
McGee’s crimes date back to 2005 when he was first convicted of second-degree theft, followed by convictions for forgery and possession of a simulated controlled substance with intent to deliver.
On March of this year, McGee knowingly possessed a Glock Model 17, 9mm pistol and Remington-Peters 9mm ammunition, according to court documents. At his guilty plea hearing, McGee admitted to six prior felony convictions in state court.
McGee’s sentence includes a special assessment of $100 and a three-year term of supervised release after his prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.
McGee is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Tim Vavricek and investigated by the FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force.
