Berkeley County Man Admits to Failing to Register as Sex Offender
MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – A Berkeley County man has pleaded guilty to failing to update his sex offender registration, announced United States Attorney Bill Powell.
Gregory Keith Parr, 61, of Martinsburg, West Virginia, admitted to violating the law by traveling across state lines without updating his sex offender registration in December 2017 in Berkeley County.
Parr, a convicted sex offender from Michigan, is facing up to 10 years incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000. The actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant, according to the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara Omps-Botteicher is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government, with the United States Marshals Service investigating.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert W. Trumble presided over the case.
Parr, who had previously been convicted of a sex offense in Michigan, admitted to failing to register as a sex offender.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of complying with sex offender registration requirements, which are in place to protect public safety.
