Martinsburg, West Virginia – Greg Everett Mosby, a 42-year-old resident of Inwood, faced the cold steel bars of federal prison today after being sentenced to 27 months for his role in the distribution of heroin. The United States Attorney Bill Powell announced the sentence.
In November 2017, Mosby pleaded guilty to one count of ‘Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin.’ His crime was committed in September 2013 within Berkeley County, where he had been caught red-handed with the illicit substance.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara K. Omps-Botteicher led the prosecution for the government, while the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) carried out the investigation that led to Mosby’s downfall.
The courtroom was presided over by Chief U.S. District Judge Gina M. Groh, who has seen countless drug cases in her time but appeared stern as she sentenced Mosby to serve his time behind bars.
This sentence comes at a time when the war on drugs rages on in West Virginia, which has been hit hard by the heroin epidemic. The community is hopeful that such sentences will deter others from engaging in drug trafficking.
Mosby’s case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of dealing drugs and underscores the government’s commitment to combating the spread of illegal substances across the nation.
