Jonathan Wayne Vickers, a 35-year-old from Summersville, West Virginia, was sentenced to four years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. The incident occurred on February 13, 2024, when Vickers was involved in an ATV crash in Nicholas County. While being treated for his injuries, a 9mm pistol fell from his person, revealing his illegal possession of the firearm. Vickers had prior felony convictions, making it a federal crime for him to possess a firearm.
Vickers’ guilty plea admitted to possessing the firearm, which is prohibited under federal law due to his prior convictions for burglary, grand larceny, and conspiracy to commit breaking and entering. The sentence was imposed by United States District Judge Irene C. Berger, with Assistant United States Attorney D. Keith Randolph prosecuting the case.
The investigation involved the Nicholas County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), with assistance from the Nicholas County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative to combat violent crime and protect communities.
United States Attorney Moore Capito commended the investigative work, highlighting the importance of cooperation between law enforcement agencies in combating federal crimes. Vickers’ sentence includes three years of supervised release following his prison term.
