Percy Jackson, a 41-year-old Memphis resident, was busted by West Memphis Police on October 10, 2023, for driving a car with a defective brake light and expired tags. But that was just the beginning – a search of the vehicle turned up a loaded, stolen 9mm Ruger firearm under the driver’s seat and a baggie of fentanyl in the glove compartment. Jackson, who was already on supervised release for prior federal convictions, was found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm and has been sentenced to 235 months in federal prison.
Jackson’s history of illegally possessing guns dates back to a 15-year federal sentence he served prior to his release on September 28, 2022. Despite being on supervised release, Jackson couldn’t seem to stay out of trouble, and his latest run-in with the law has landed him a nearly 20-year sentence.
The federal grand jury indicted Jackson on June 6, 2024, on three counts, including being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime. After a three-day trial, the jury returned a guilty verdict on the first count, and Chief United States District Judge Kristine G. Baker handed down the sentence.
In addition to the 235-month sentence, Jackson will also serve three years of supervised release. With no parole in the federal system, Jackson will have to serve out his sentence in full.
