Devon Floyd, a 34-year-old Florida man, was found guilty of robbing four convenience stores at gunpoint in the Middle District of Florida in July 2023. The string of robberies took place in various locations, with Floyd using a firearm to intimidate and steal from each store. The investigation that led to Floyd’s conviction involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Tampa Police Department, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The break in the case came when the Tampa Police Department identified a fingerprint belonging to Floyd on a box of pens he had touched during one of the robberies. Further investigation, including video footage and DNA evidence, linked Floyd to the other robberies. The case also led to the arrest and conviction of two accomplices, Leanna Bryant and Kavar Young, who pleaded guilty to various charges related to the robberies.
Floyd faces up to 20 years in prison for each of the four robbery offenses and a minimum sentence of 28 years, up to life, for the firearms offenses. The conviction is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a nationwide initiative aimed at reducing violent crime.
The investigation was a collaborative effort between multiple agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which assisted with cellphone location analysis. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Samantha Newman.
