Thomas Young, a 46-year-old convicted felon from Manchester, New Hampshire, was sentenced to 28 months in federal prison for unlawful possession of multiple firearms. The sentence comes after Young pleaded guilty on March 26, 2026, to one count of unlawful possession of firearms. Young, a gang member, was found to be selling firearms, including a modified AK-47 rifle and a .40 caliber carbine-style gun, to a confidential source.
The FBI led the investigation, which began in September 2023 when they learned from a confidential source that Young was selling firearms. Young agreed to sell the confidential source a modified AK-47 rifle for $2,200 and later tried to sell another firearm, a .40 caliber carbine-style gun, for $1,350. In April 2024, law enforcement searched Young’s home and found two shotguns, shotgun shells, a silencer, and almost 500 rounds of ammunition.
U.S. Attorney Erin Creegan stated that the sentence underscores that felons are not legally allowed to possess firearms, and that the defendant possessed multiple firearms capable of inflicting massive damage. The FBI’s Boston Division Special Agent in Charge, Ted E. Docks, added that getting guns away from people who shouldn’t have them is a critical part of their effort to crush violent crime in the city.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexander S. Chen prosecuted the case, which resulted in Young being sentenced to 28 months in prison and 3 years of supervised release. The sentence aims to disarm felons and reduce the risk of violent crime in Manchester and surrounding areas.
