A convicted felon was busted trying to sneak a loaded gun onto a flight at DFW Airport, and now he’s facing the music. Xavier Lamar Mottley, 44, of Keller, TX, was convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm after a three-day trial in Fort Worth federal court.
The incident went down on July 24, 2024, when Mottley checked in a bag under his minor daughter’s name containing an unsecured and loaded Sig Sauer pistol. When authorities confronted him, he lied about his felony status and spun a web of deceit.
Mottley’s got a history of crime – two prior felony convictions, including a federal conviction for access device fraud and a state conviction for theft of property valued over $1,500. His wife claimed the gun belonged to her and that she’d forgotten to remove it from the backpack after a trip the year prior.
Now, Mottley’s facing punishment for his crime. Thanks to the quick response of TSA and DFW Airport Department of Public Safety, the airport remained safe, and the public can rest a little easier knowing that felons with guns aren’t getting away with it.
