A masked menace terrorized San Antonio’s financial district in September 2025, attempting to blow up two ATMs at local banks. Surveillance footage showed Dustin Jay Ammons, 44, arriving in a black Ram 3500 pickup truck, wearing skeleton gloves and a hooded jacket, then placing pipe bombs at the ATMs.
The explosions, however, failed to breach the machines, and Ammons was caught when the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives executed a search warrant at his residence on December 12, 2025.
Inside the garage, agents discovered a homemade explosives lab containing Pentaerythritol Tetranitrate (PETN), and found firearms, magazines, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition throughout the house. Ammons had no registered firearms or licenses to possess explosive materials.
Ammons, a convicted felon with multiple previous convictions, pleaded guilty to one count of felon in possession of a firearm and one count of explosive materials, transport by non-licensee.
He faces up to 15 years in prison for the gun charge and up to 10 years for the explosives charge, with a total of up to 25 years in prison.
