In the dark alleys of the dark web, predators lurked, preying on the innocent. In the Eastern District of Texas, a disturbing trend of child sex abuse and sex trafficking has come to light. Ten offenders, including a Northwest ISD teacher and a sex trafficking ring leader, have been brought to justice, sentenced to a combined 270 years in federal prison.
The cases highlight the despicable ways in which predators use the internet to facilitate the abuse of children and adult sex trafficking. A Northwest ISD teacher, Kyle Lee Roy Francis, was indicted for receiving and possessing child pornography. Justin Philip Ciruti was convicted of possessing and distributing over 200 images of child pornography, facing up to 20 years in prison.
But it’s the cases of William McKinnley Garland and Anastasiya Claire Lyons that send shivers down the spine. The duo was convicted of a sex trafficking conspiracy that involved recruiting young women on social media, forcing them into prostitution, and subjecting them to brutal treatment, including beatings and humiliation.
Other offenders, including Rolando Alexis Bravo and Henry Alberto Calix-Martinez, have also been held accountable for their crimes. Bravo pleaded guilty to transporting children from Oklahoma to Texas for prostitution, while Calix-Martinez was indicted for child exploitation.
The convictions are a testament to the relentless work of law enforcement agencies and the commitment to protecting children and bringing sex traffickers to justice.
