A 12-year-old girl from North Carolina was allegedly lured to Ohio by a 45-year-old man she met online. Virgil Larson, of Bremen, Ohio, is charged with kidnapping the minor and four other child exploitation crimes.
According to court documents, Larson communicated with the victim on Snapchat and text messages before traveling to North Carolina. He met the girl at her home, where her parents still were investigating her disappearance.
When Larson crashed his car on Highway 33, deputies found the victim in the front passenger seat. Larson initially claimed she was 18, but the girl couldn’t name her birth year, revealing her true age.
Investigators discovered that Larson had threatened the victim and coerced her into sending explicit images. He has been behind bars since April 7, initially on local charges.
