Haitian Citizen Jailed for Illicit Re-entry
ALBANY, NEW YORK – A shocking case of illicit re-entry has made headlines as Obanette Jean, a 35-year-old Haitian citizen, was sentenced to time served for entering the United States illegally.
According to sources, Jean was ordered removed from the United States to Haiti on April 1, 2015. However, on October 12, 2017, she made a daring move, departing the United States while her removal order was still pending. She then entered Canada, but her journey didn’t end there. On July 27, 2018, Jean was arrested by a Border Patrol Agent just south of the border after she entered the United States from Canada without inspection approximately one-quarter mile west of the Champlain Port of Entry.

The harsh sentence was handed down by United States Attorney Grant C. Jaquith and Robert N. Garcia, Acting Chief Patrol Agent, United States Border Patrol, Swanton Sector.
