Harold Fuller, Jr., Possession of a Stolen Firearm, South Dakota 2017

A South Dakota man has been sentenced to 9 months in custody for his role in a stolen firearm case. Harold Fuller, Jr., 38, was handed down the sentence by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange on February 27, 2017.

According to court documents, Fuller was convicted of Possession of a Stolen Firearm, a charge stemming from an incident on February 22, 2016. Fuller allegedly took a duffle bag and tools from a vehicle, which included a firearm that he later attempted to sell.

The investigation into Fuller’s activities was led by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Carrie G. Sanderson prosecuted the case against Fuller.

Fuller was indicted by a federal grand jury on July 19, 2016. He entered a guilty plea on December 2, 2016, which led to the conviction.

As part of his sentence, Fuller was ordered to pay a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100. He was also required to pay restitution to the owner of the firearm.

Fuller was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after the sentencing hearing.

The case serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting our communities from those who would seek to harm them through illicit activities. The efforts of law enforcement agencies in pursuing justice for the victims of such crimes are to be commended.
