Hartford Man Sentenced to 24 Months for Gang-Related Narcotics Trafficking

A 26-year-old man from Hartford has been sentenced to 24 months in federal prison for his role in a gang-related narcotics trafficking operation.

Michael Morrison, also known as ‘Nazzie,’ was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Alker Meyer in New Haven for trafficking narcotics. Morrison regularly received 8-ball quantities (3.5 grams) of crack cocaine from members of the conspiracy and sold the drug to others.

The investigation, led by the FBI’s Northern Connecticut Violent Crimes Task Force, identified Melkuan Scott, also known as ‘Young God,’ ‘Mel,’ ‘Young,’ and ‘YG,’ as the leader of the West Hell street gang. Scott and his associates distributed crack cocaine in the Westland Street area of Hartford.

Morrison was arrested on May 7, 2014, and pleaded guilty on April 17, 2015, to using a telephone to facilitate a narcotics trafficking offense. He has been detained since January 26, 2016, when his bond was revoked.

The investigation resulted in the charging of 25 individuals, with 23 defendants pleading guilty to various offenses. One defendant was convicted after trial, and another was shot and killed while their case was pending. Scott pleaded guilty and awaits sentencing.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys John H. Durham and Peter S. Jongbloed. The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Northern Connecticut Violent Crimes Task Force, Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Marshals Service, and Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation Division contributed to the investigation.

The Hartford Police Department’s Vice and Narcotics Squad, Major Crimes Unit, and Shooting Task Force, as well as the Capitol Region Emergency Response Team, provided valuable assistance to the investigation.
