Hatcher Day, Fentanyl & Firearms, Tulsa OK, 2023

TULSA, OK – Hatcher Ramon Day, 27, of Phoenix, Arizona, is facing a lengthy federal sentence after a jury found him guilty Thursday of flooding Tulsa streets with fentanyl and illegally stockpiling firearms. The bust, a joint operation between the Tulsa Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), uncovered a chilling operation aimed at profiting from the deadly opioid crisis.

According to court documents, Tulsa police initially received a tip in September 2022 regarding drug sales originating from a local residence. A check revealed the property was a short-term rental through Airbnb. On September 19th, officers executed a search warrant, finding Day inside with a staggering 8,000+ fentanyl pills – weighing in at 888 grams – along with five firearms and a cache of ammunition. The scale of the operation points to a deliberate effort to saturate the region with the highly potent and dangerous drug.

“Hatcher Day came from Arizona to Oklahoma for the purpose of distributing fentanyl,” stated U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson in a press release. “He further possessed five firearms to help protect his illicit product and profits.” Johnson didn’t mince words, adding, “Drugs and guns are never a good combination and too often result in violence and death. These dealers wreak havoc on families and contribute to the economic decline in neighborhoods.”

The investigation quickly revealed that four of the five firearms seized were stolen, flagged in the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database. Day, a convicted felon, was already legally prohibited from possessing any firearms or ammunition. The evidence painted a clear picture: Day wasn’t just dealing drugs; he was armed and prepared to defend his criminal enterprise. Authorities confirmed Day rented the Airbnb property specifically to facilitate his illicit activities.

Testimony during the trial offered a chilling glimpse into Day’s operation. A cooperating witness revealed that he and Day traveled from Arizona specifically to distribute fentanyl in Tulsa. The witness further detailed witnessing Day conduct a drug deal prior to the raid, agreeing to sell a customer two “boats” – a street term for 1,000 fentanyl pills each. This detail underscores the sheer volume of deadly narcotics Day intended to push onto Tulsa streets.

Day was convicted of possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute, possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Nathan E. Michel and Kenneth Elmore are prosecuting the case. Sentencing details have not yet been announced, but given the charges and the quantity of fentanyl involved, Day is likely facing a significant prison term. The ATF and Tulsa PD continue to investigate potential co-conspirators.
