Hector Espola, a 30-year-old Southbridge man, has been found guilty of distributing oxycodone in Massachusetts.
According to court documents, Espola sold 300 oxycodone pills on two occasions in July and August 2016 to an individual cooperating with investigators. He was subsequently arrested on February 17, 2017.
Upon his arrest, law enforcement agents found Espola in possession of an additional 300 oxycodone pills.
Espola pleaded guilty to possession of oxycodone with intent to distribute in federal court in Worcester. The charge carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, as well as a fine of up to $1 million.
U.S. District Court Judge Timothy S. Hillman has scheduled sentencing for October 13, 2017.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Greg A. Friedholm of the Worcester Branch Office.
A federal arrest warrant had been issued for Espola, who was apprehended in Massachusetts after returning from a trip to New York City.
Southbridge Police Chief Shane Woodson and Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration, Michael Ferguson, also made an announcement regarding the case.
