Henderson Man Dopes 2 to Death with Fentanyl, Gets 23 Years

A ruthless fentanyl trafficker has been brought to justice in a Western District of Kentucky court, where he was sentenced to 23 years in federal prison for two counts of distributing the deadly drug.

Elijah Lovell, 20, of Henderson, KY, was sentenced to 23 years in prison, followed by 5 years of supervised release, for his role in the overdose deaths of two individuals, J.H. and C.G.

According to court documents, Lovell distributed fentanyl between December 27, 2021, and January 31, 2022, resulting in the death of J.H. He then struck again on May 5, 2022, distributing fentanyl that led to the death of C.G.

“Let this sentence serve notice to those who traffic drugs in the Western District that this office, together with our law enforcement partners, will aggressively investigate and prosecute individuals who cause the tragic loss of life through the distribution of their poison,” said U.S. Attorney Michael A. Bennett.

The Henderson Police Department and Henderson County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case, which was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Frank Dahl.

There is no parole in the federal system, and Lovell will serve out his full 23-year sentence. The sentence is a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of fentanyl trafficking and the commitment of law enforcement to hold those responsible accountable.

“I commend the Henderson Police Department and the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office for their excellent work and partnership during the investigation and prosecution of this case,” said U.S. Attorney Bennett.

This case is a testament to the critical role that law enforcement plays in keeping our communities safe from the scourge of fentanyl trafficking. We will continue to work tirelessly to investigate and prosecute those who bring this poison to our streets.
