Heroin Kingpin Brought to Justice
A 60-year-old Albertville man has been indicted on serious heroin distribution and gun charges, according to federal authorities. MICHAEL DILLEN MOORE, a convicted felon, is accused of possessing with intent to distribute heroin in Marshall County on April 8, 2016.
According to the indictment, Moore was convicted in Marshall County Circuit Court in 1983 for the felony offenses of third-degree burglary and second-degree forgery. This latest indictment charges him with possession with intent to distribute heroin, possessing a firearm in furtherance of the drug-trafficking offense, and as a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
Moore is accused of possessing a Reck .22-caliber derringer, a firearm that he allegedly used to facilitate his heroin distribution operation. The maximum penalty for this charge is five years in prison.
Moore also faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine for his alleged role in distributing heroin. The maximum prison penalty for being a convicted felon in possession of a gun is 10 years.
“Where there are illegal narcotics, there are illegal firearms,” said U.S. Attorney Jay E. Town. “There’s no such thing as a non-violent drug dealer, and those who possess either guns or drugs illegally will find themselves in federal court.”
Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert J. Becher Sr. is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The indictment was filed in U.S. District Court in Birmingham. Moore will now face the consequences of his alleged crimes in federal court.”
