Heroin Trafficking Bust: 4 Kilograms Seized
BOSTON – A massive heroin trafficking operation was brought down yesterday with the arrest of a Mexican national, Miguel Angel Torres Morales, 39, who is accused of distributing four kilograms of the deadly drug.
According to court documents, a cooperating witness arranged to purchase the heroin from a large-scale narcotics distributor for $55,000 per kilogram. The deal went down at the ‘Park and Ride’ parking lot on Granite Avenue in Milton, where federal agents stopped a tractor trailer driven by Torres Morales.
Inside the cab, authorities discovered four brick-packed kilograms of tan powder wrapped in cellophane, which tested positive for heroin in a field test. The arrest marks a significant blow to the heroin trade in Massachusetts.
Torres Morales is charged with possession with intent to distribute one kilogram or more of heroin, a crime that carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison and up to life, along with a fine of up to $10 million.
The defendant will also face deportation proceedings upon completion of his sentence. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lauren A. Graber of U.S. Attorney Andrew E. Lelling’s Narcotics and Money Laundering Unit is prosecuting the case.
Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration, New England Field Division, Brian D. Boyle, praised the work of federal agents in taking down the operation. ‘This arrest is a testament to the dedication of our law enforcement partners in disrupting the heroin trade and keeping our communities safe.’
