Timothy J. Jackson, Heroin Trafficking, West Virginia 2014

Timothy J. Jackson

WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA – A Hancock County man has been charged with heroin trafficking and firearms offenses, announced United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II. Timothy J. Jackson, 56, of New Cumberland, West Virginia, faces serious consequences after a federal grand jury returned an indictment in December 2014.

According to the indictment, Jackson was in possession of heroin and a stolen semi-automatic pistol in Hancock County, West Virginia. He is charged with two counts of federal offenses, including one count of ‘Possession of a Stolen Firearm,’ which carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.00.

Jackson is also charged with ‘Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin,’ which carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $1,000,000.00.

Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Vogrin is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The Hancock, Brooke, Weirton Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are leading the investigation.

An indictment is merely an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. The investigation is ongoing, and further information will be released as it becomes available.

As the community continues to grapple with the opioid epidemic, cases like Jackson’s serve as a reminder of the devastating impact of heroin trafficking. Grimy Times will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
